Job Summary 
As an Associate Vice President, Donor Relations and Experience, you will use your expertise to provide support to clients from healthcare systems and academic medical centers, colleges and universities, arts and cultural organizations, and many other nonprofits to advance their missions. This is a client-facing position that leads and conducts client engagements and plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing innovative strategies to cultivate meaningful connections with donors, enhance stewardship efforts, and drive philanthropic outcomes for our clients.  Collaborating closely with team members across the organization, you will lead initiatives to optimize donor communications, leverage data analytics for strategy refinement, and ensure a cohesive approach to overall donor engagement and donor retention.  Your expertise will be critical in shaping annual management plans and event strategies. 
 
In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by driving donor engagement and retention strategies, fostering donor relationships with our clients, and contributing to the overall success of our clients’ fundraising efforts.  Your leadership, strategic thinking, and collaborative approach will be instrumental in advancing philanthropic goals and strengthening institutional ties within the community. 
 
 Responsibilities 
  • Develop newly-formed Donor Relations and Experience team offerings with intention to expand strategically. 
  • Serve as a core member of the leadership team for the Engagement & Donor Experience (EDX) division, alongside leaders of other teams:  Strategic Communications, Annual Giving & Digital Marketing, and First Name (BWF’s solution to client donor engagement centers and high-volume authentic video for donor engagement purposes). 
  • Define engagement scope of work and deliverables and provide delivery of consulting services in partnership with clients. 
  • Lead select client engagements with multiple team members and serve as a team member on other engagements.  Must be able to effectively manage projects and team resources assigned to projects. 
  • Develop and execute highly customized stewardship strategies and plans for high-net worth major donor individuals, corporations, and foundations. 
  • Conduct tasks and projects for clients, including crafting donor relations and stewardship strategies aimed at fostering deep connections and increasing donor retention, driving initiatives to build donor pipelines in alignment with client goals and priorities, and create compelling donor communications. 
  • Collaborate regularly with internal team members and clients to ensure delivery of cohesive and quality work product delivered by deadline. 
  • Engage in multiple projects, with varying deadlines, scopes, and deliverables at any given time. 
  • Meet agreed-upon goals each year by completing quality work efficiently. 
  • Contribute to BWF thought leadership by creating written content and engage in public speaking opportunities to promote expertise in philanthropy through company and industry publications, conferences, or events. 
  • Participate in ongoing internal activities as a productive and active member of the company. These may include orientation and ongoing trainings, company-wide client review meetings, and other skill-building activities. 
  • Develop and maintain a robust network of potential clients, initiate conversations with potential clients, and actively respond to sales opportunities, including writing proposals and participating in sales presentations. 
  • Provide insight and expertise on how to increase the quality and effectiveness of stewardship and engagement programs by keeping informed of the latest ideas, developments and trends in donor relations/experience strategies through attendance of professional conferences, and by collaborating with a network of professional colleagues and resources. 
  • Contribute to optimistic, collaborative, mission-driven EDX division and BWF company culture. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
 Qualifications 
  • 5+ years of experience in donor relations, donor experience, or stewardship.  Higher education and healthcare experience preferred, with ability to lead donor strategies in large nonprofits and arts and culture organizations as well. Demonstrated success in developing and implementing comprehensive donor relations/experience and stewardship strategies. 
  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights for strategy refinement, including strong analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative, and using solid strategic thinking. 
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Proficient at skill building and training techniques for both internal staff and client teams. 
  • Strong leadership skills, including strategy development and execution. 
  • Creative and innovative approach to donor relations, donor experience and stewardship, emphasizing personalization and impact. 
  • Be experienced in presenting at conferences, be an active leader in championing philanthropy, and have an interest in sharing knowledge and expertise with others. 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. 
  • Ability to create a strong, positive initial impression, maintain a solid professional credibility, and cultivate lasting professional relationships.

 Work Environment/Conditions 
  • This position can be remote or based in our Minneapolis office (locally based employees are expected to maintain a hybrid office presence). 
  • Position requires ability to work in a stationary position for majority of workday. 
  • Continuous use of computer. 
  • Frequent communication with team and clients via zoom and in person. 
  • This is an exempt position that requires at least 40 hours of work per week but due to the nature of this role, additional hours are required when deadlines need to be met. 
  • Overnight travel to client sites, conferences, or company meetings is sometimes required (up to 25%).

Compensation and Benefits 
Annual base salary range of $90,000.00 to $140,000.00 based on qualifications and experience.  This position is eligible for an annual performance bonus based on transparently defined performance metrics including client satisfaction, work quality, team attainment, and firm contribution metrics.
